Abstract

PURPOSE:To clean a development sleeve completely by applying an electrically conductive member with a bias potential which forms an electric field wherein electrostatic force to the conductive member is applied to insulating toner as a developer before it is scraped off by a blade. CONSTITUTION:A developer carried counterclockwise along the circumferential surface of a development sleeve 2 after being used for development is scrapped off with a blade 8 and returned from the top of a supporting member 10 to a development carriage device 6. A developer sticking to the circumferential surface of the development sleeve 2, on the other hand, is passed by the blade 8 and adsorbed to a cleaning roller or freed from the circumferential surface of the sleeve 2 through the operation of a bias potential applied to the cleaning roller 12, so that most of it falls along the blade 8. The developer on the circumferential surface of the cleaning roller 12 is scraped off with a blde 13 and returned to a developer carriage device.
