Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable a rapid and correct computing of a position of the own ship, by a method wherein data of a target on the land, bearing data of tergets on the land at two spots, the distance of the own ship by which the ship advances during the bearing measurement of the two targets, and the bearing data of the ship are inputted to an arithmetric unit to compute them according to programs. CONSTITUTION:Bearings thetaa, and thetab of targets A and B on the land, position data ax, ay, and bx, by of the targets A and B, which are called from the cade of an input device 4, a bearing data of the ship 1, and a distance l of the ship 1, by which it advances during the bearing measurement of the targets A and B, are inputted to an arithmetric unit 5, such as microcomputers, from an input device 4, a memory 6, a bearing measuring device 2, and a log 3, respectively. A computation is then conducted according to preset programs, and accurate latitudes X and Y of the ship 1 are computed to indicate them in an indicator 7. This permits the rapid and accurate computation of the position of the ship 1.
