NEW MATERIAL:The 5-fluorouracil derivative of formula I (X is lower acyloxy; A is aliphatic hydrocarbon group; n is 1 or 2).
EXAMPLE: N1-(2,5-Diacetoxyphenylacetyl)-5-fluorouracil.
USE: Orally administrable antitumor agent.
PROCESS: The compound of formula I is prepared by reacting a silylated 5-fluorouracil (e.g. bistrimethylsilyl-5-fluorouracil) with a phenylacyl compound of formula II [Y is OR (R is H or lower alkyl) or halogen], at or around the room temperature, if necessary in the presence of an acid acceptor such as alkali carbonate and a dehydrating agent such as phosphoric anhydride.
