Abstract
PURPOSE: To perform nitrification concurrently with BOD-removal and to shorten a period required for water purification, by adding a CO2 source to filthy water before the BOD-removing reaction.
CONSTITUTION: An inorganic carbonate, e.g. sodium carbonate or calcium carbonate, and a CO2 source, e.g. combustion exhaust gas from a boiler, are added to inflow filthy water, and the filthy water is subjected to BOD-removing reaction, whereby nitrification is promoted concurrently with the intrinsic BOD-removing reation. Consequently, a BOD-source and nitrate nitrogen coexist in the system, so that denitrification is promoted at a partial anaerobic site, too. As a result, the BOD-removing reaction is accelerated. After the reaction, solid matters are separated from the liquid by precipitation and the purified water is drained. According to this method, the enhancement of treating efficiency and the minaturization of the installation can be attained.
