Abstract

PURPOSE: An organic high-polymer formed product having capability of adsorbing iodine is treated in an atmosphere containing an iodine gas at higher than a specific temperature to effect the adsorption of a trace amount of iodine into the product, thus producing the titled formed product such as surgical robbs showing high antimicrobial activity almost permanently.
CONSTITUTION: An organic high-polymer formed product having capability of adsorbing iodine such as acrylonitrile or polyamide fiber, leather or plastics is treated in an atmosphere containing an iodine gas at higher than 60°C, preferably lower than 200°C, to effect the adsorption of iodine in the product by more than 0.01wt%, thus producing the objective product. For example, the polyester fiber containing 0.05wt% iodine adsorbed shows excellent antimicrobial activity even after washed with a domestic washing machine continuously for 7hr.
USE: Working wears in food or medicine-manufacturing factories, biocidal filter, biocidal air-filter, vessels and pipes preventing the growth of bacteria.
