After the completion of the cultivation, the liquid medium is filtered, the filtrate is mixed with 10N sodium hydroxide solution, the solvent phase is concentrated and dried under reduced pressure and dissolved in ethyl acetate, the solution is shaken with an aqueous solution of sodium carbonate, the mixture is settled, and the solvent layer is extracted with hydrochloric acid. The aqueous phase is made basic, and extracted with chloroform. The above steps are repeated to obtain the component containing saframycin complex.
