Abstract
PURPOSE:To measure a bacillus number continuously, accurately and rapidly independent of pH and temperature, by measuring bacillus number by using an ultrasonic wave generated by a piezoelectric element. CONSTITUTION:One of a pair of piezoelectric elements 2 that is coated and insulated with a resin such as epoxy resin 6, is connected to a electric source 1 of alternating current, and the other is connected to a potentiometer 3 to constitute a bacillus number measuring apparatus. This apparatus is set up in a culturing vessel of microorganism containing 10<6>-10<10>/ml of bacilli, and electric voltage of 1-10v is impressed from an electric source 1, then an ultrasonic wave is generated in 20KHz or more. This wave is received by the other piezoelectric element, and converted to an electric voltage and the result is displayed by the potentiometer 3. According to this procedure, a reading of the potentiometer and bacillus number indicate linearly proportional relation and the bacillus number in the culturing vessel is measured accurately, readily and continuously.
