Abstract
PURPOSE: The titled flame retardant composition, containing polyvinyl chloride, a plasticizer, hydrated alumina, zinc borate, and a flame retardant in a specific proportion, having improved mechanical properties, suitable for electrical insulating materials, etc. without causing abnormality, e.g. foaming and decomposition, in molding and processing.
CONSTITUTION: 100pts.wt. polyvinyl chloride, e.g. a copolymer prepared by copolymerizing straight polymer or a copolymer prepared by copolymerizing vinyl chloride with a comonomer, e.g. vinyl acetate, is incorporated with 40W80pts.wt. plasticizer, e.g. the phthalic acid type, 30W100pts.wt. hydrated alumina 5W 20pts.wt. zinc borate and 5W50pts.wt. flame retardant, e.g. the halogen type powder or liquid, having a melting point ≤180°C or a liquid having a function to reduce the melt viscosity of the composition at a ratio of the flame retardant of to the hydrated alumina of 0.1W0.5, and the resultant mixture is then mixed and molded into various shapes by calender rolls, etc. to give the aimed composition.
