Abstract
PURPOSE: The title room temperature drying coating composition having improved adhesion, impact and alkali resistance, prepared by incorporating a cyclopentadiene resin having a specific softening point with a cold drying coating compound containing a chlorinated polyolefin as a binder.
CONSTITUTION: (A) 100 parts by wt. of a chlorinated polyolefin having a viscosity of a 40 wt.% solution in toluene at 25°C of 20W10,000 cps with a chlorine content ≥ 55 wt.% is incorporated with (B) 5W100 parts by wt. of a cyclopentadiene resin having a softening point of 50W160°C and a Gardner color pcale ≤ 10, obtained by thermal polymerization of (a) 50W100 wt.% of a cyclopentadiene monomer and (b) 50W0 wt.% of a di-or monoolefinic monomer or a polar vinyl monomer copolymerizable with the monomer (a) to give a blend, which is dissolved in a solvent for coating compounds to give a chlorinated polyolefin content ≥ 20 wt.% in the binder.
