Abstract

PURPOSE: An ati-inflammatory for external use that contains one of specific phenylacetic derivatives some of which are novel, thus showing high activity.
CONSTITUTION: The objective anti-inflammatory includes a phenylacetic derivative of the formula (R1 is H, lower alkyl; R2 is H, lower alkyl, aralkyl, pyridylmethyl; >A-B- is >CH-CH2-, >C=CH-; n is 1, 2) such as 2-[4-(2-oxocyclopentan-1- ylmethyl)phenyl]propionic acid. Some of the compounds of the formula are novel. They show remarkable anti-inflammatory activity when locally applied and high percutaneous absorption. Therefore, they are used in the form of cream, ointment or lotion for wounds, ambustions, eczemas and contact dermatitis.
