Abstract
PURPOSE:To shorten the time required for the light output to reach the stable state, by making the shape of the lamp spherical while employing the silicon glass as the lamp wall material and making its weight lower than specific amount against the microwave input. CONSTITUTION:The lamp wall 12 of a discharge lamp 6 is formed spherically with transparent silicon glass then argon and gallium, mercury iodide, mercury as the discharge medium are encapsulated, while the weight of the lamp wall 12 is selected lower than 30X10<-3>g/W against the microwave input to the lamp 6. Then it is located in a resonance type microwave cavity comprising a semi-spherical reflector member 4 and a mesh 10 and lighted by the microwave output from a magnetron 1. Since the time required for the light output to reach the stable state is proportional to the heat cavity of the lamp wall member, the stabilizing time can be shortened below several seconds by regulating said time.
