Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve welding strength and to prevent the strain of the barrel of a can due to the thermal expansion in welding from occurring by a method wherein two blanks are allowed to cover the outer circumferential surface of a mandrel and both lugs of those blanks are lapped and pressed by high frequency electrodes. CONSTITUTION:Blanks (a), (b) are fed one by one from both sides of the mandrel 1 in the tangential direction of the mandrel 1, curved along the outer circumferential surface of the mandrel, the lug part on the front end is touched to a lowe blank- locating guide 2 and the lug part on the back end is to an upper blank-locating guide 6 and located by a locating plate 5. The lappped parts are pressed by high frequency electrodes A, A', B, B' arranged over and under the lapped parts (a), (b), the blanks (a), (b) are heated and welded by high frequency heating. After the lapped part the welded surfaces are cooled by the high frequency electrodes A, A', B, B' cooled through refrigerating pipes 8.
