Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve S/N to facilitate orientation of a fault position, by detecting the difference between reflection waveforms for normality and fault. CONSTITUTION:Respective data such as the transmission characteristic, the reflection characteristic, and the loss characteristic per unit length of the cable are stored in a storage device 5, and the cable length of each section is inputted from a keyboard device 6. A central processor 1 performs a prescribed operation on the basis of these data to obtain a reflection waveform for normality and operates the difference between this reflection waveform and the reflection waveform inputted from an A/D converter 3 and displays the operation result on a display device 7. If the line is faulty, the difference between both waveforms is shown by the waveform in the figure, and the occurrence of a fault in the part of a time (t) is detected; and the fault occurrence point is measured by this time (t) and propagation speeds of the transmission signal and the reflection signal.
