Abstract
PURPOSE:To save the power consumption when the end of a tape is detected, by turning on the corresponding light source immediately before a microcomputer decides the presence or absence of the output current of a photoelectric transducer provided via an optical transparent matter at the edge part of a magnetic tape and then turning off the light source immediately after the decision. CONSTITUTION:Photoelectric transducers 1 and 3 are oppositely provided to light sources 2 and 4 at the supply and taken-up reel sides and sandwich a magnetic tape having an optical transparent matter at each end part. Then the working mode is decided by a microcomputer 8 when the end of tape is detected, and the source 2 or 4 is turned on via light source driving circuits 9 and 10 at the supply and take-up reel sides and by the signal of decision. The presence or absence of the output curret is decided for the transducer 1 or 3. If no output current exists, the light source is immediately turned off; while the traveling tape is stopped if the output current exists with the light source turned off. In such way, the end of tape can be detected with a small amount of power consumption.
