PURPOSE:To decrease the memory capacity to a large extent by storing the segment coordinates of map information to a pattern memory, and by using a fresh memory which is divided into a plurality of blocks. CONSTITUTION:The data, which are read out of the pattern memory wherein the coordinate values of the starting and terminating points of the segment in map information, are converted in a scale conversion and coordinate setting part 12, and supplied to a segment generator 13. Then the segment data which are generated in the segment generator 13 are written in fresh memory blocks 16, wherein the coordinates of sweep direction on a display are divided into a plurality of blocks, so as to correspond to the address of the screen. Since the capacity of the pattern memory can be reduced and the refresh memory does not require the memory capacity for all of the coordinates of the screen, the capacity of the refresh memory can be reduced.
