Abstract
PURPOSE:To reliably perform an electrophoretic measurement with a constitution needing no movable part, by calculating the electrophoretic speed from the ratio of the Fourier-transformed outputs of the images, corresponding to the suspended particle distributions, detected by a diode array before the starting of electrophoresis and after a given time has passed since the starting. CONSTITUTION:The image of the sample particles injected into an electrophoretic tube 1 and irradiated with light is detected by a diode array 5. The Fourier-transformed value G(n) of the suspended particle density in the x direction of the rectangular coordinates at time 0 is stored in a 2 channel memory 8 through a CPU 12, an A/D converter 13, a Fourier transformer 7 and the like. Then, the Fourier-transformed value K(n) similarly obtained after a given time, e.g. two seconds, has passed since a voltage was applied between electrodes 2 and 3 to electrophoretically move the suspended particles is stored in the other channel of the 2 channel memory 8. When the ratio of both the contents of the memory 8 is calculated in a divider 9, the electrophoretic speed Fourier-transformed value phi(n) of the suspended particle density ratio according to the equation I is determined, and the electrophoretic speed is reliably detected through a reverse Fourier transformer 10, with a constitution having no movable part.
