Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of display distortion caused by distorted molding of a mesh electrode and luminance by a method wherein an area of mesh opening in the peripheral portion of the mesh electrode is made smaller than that of mesh opening in the central portion. CONSTITUTION:A plane mesh member 14 is welded or joined by pressure to ring support frames 13a, 13b to hold and stretch the member. Then the central portion of the member is allowed to swell out to form a spherical surface, or a spherical mesh, using a press. An area S of mesh opening in the peripheral portion 14a of the mesh 14 is made smaller than that S' of mesh opening of its central portion 14b. By so doing, the strength of the peripheral portion of the mesh is improved, while the appearance of creases after the mesh has been molded in the spherical form can be prevented. Thus a cathode-ray tube free from display distortion and irregular luminance is obtainable.
