Abstract

PURPOSE: To form an extremely thin paint film of uniform thickness of micron order at a high speed by impregnating paint on a coating roller having a soft foamed elastomer surface material and coating the same after squeezing the roller.
CONSTITUTION: A coating roller 3 having soft foamed elastomer on the surface is dipped in the paint 2 contained in a vessel 1, and the roller is pulled up. The excess paint impregnated therein is squeezed by press-contacting the roller to a pressure plate 4 or the like by pressurizing operation. Namely, while the roller 3 is being rotated in the direction of an arrow 6, the pressure plate 4 is press-contacted to the roller in the direction of an arrow 5, whereby the roller is squeezed. Next, the paint is coated by the roller 3 on a member to be coated as a photoreceptor consisting of a photoconductive layer 9 formed on an aluminum drum 10. The roller 3 is press- contacted to the circumferential end part of the drum 10 and the drum 10 is rotated in th direction of an arrow 8 and the roller 3 in the direction of an arrow 7, whereby the paint impregnated in the roller 3 is coated to uniform 0.5W5μ thicknesses.
