Abstract
PURPOSE: To form a thick-wall coating film on an optical fiber at a high speed, by passing the optical fiber through an opened coating bath, forming a thin-wall primary coating film on the fiber, and passing the coated fiber through a pressurized coating bath to form a coating film on the outer periphery thereof.
CONSTITUTION: An optical fiber (B) is passed through a coating bath 5, and a thin primary coating film of about 10μm thickness is formed from a coating material 7 on the outer periphery of the fiber (B). Thus, a primarily coated optical fiber (C) is obtained. The resultant optical fiber (C) is then passed through a drying oven 8 to harden the primary coating film. The fiber (C) is then passed through a taking off capstan 9 to the second pressurized coating bath 10, and the outer periphery of the optical fiber (C) is coated with the secondary coating film of about 100μm thickness on passing through a nipple 11 and leaving the coating bath 10 by the pressurized bath 10 to give a secondarily coated optical fiber (D) having the secondary coating film. The resultant optical fiber (D) is then passed through a drying oven 15, and the secondary coating film is hardened. The fiber (D) is further passed through rollers 16 and wound onto a winder 17.
