Abstract

PURPOSE: To regenerate an adsorbent substantially perfectly by a method wherein the entire body of an adsorbent layer is heated, a purge gas is passed through the layer, then the inlet of the layer is cooled and the purge gas is passed through the layer in the same direction as that for passing a gas at the time of desorption, when regenerating the adsorbent by desorption.
CONSTITUTION: When regenurating the used adsorbent layer by passing a desorbing gas which is the same with the gas to be treated, the entire body of the adsorbent layer B is heated by a heater 7 and the purge gas is passed through the layer B in the direction opposite to that for adsorption, thereby carrying out the desorption treatment for the entire body of the layer. Then, the inlet part 3b of the adsorbent layer as viewed in the direction for passing a gas at the time of adsorption is cooled, followed by passing the purge gas through the layer B in said direction for desorption. When the adsorbent is regenerated by this method, a layer having already adsorbed water is formed at the inlet part, the subsequent layer is also desorption- treated substantially perfectly and the adsorbing ability of the adsorbent is regenerated.
