Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a exhaust filter having high mechanical strength, thermal impact resistance and collecting yield for fine particles, by forming a layer of rough surface consisting of aluminium compounds on the surface of a foamed metal having a shape available for packing, and forming said metal into a sintered inorganic body successively. CONSTITUTION:A foamed metal made of various kinds of metals or alloys such as Ni, Cr is formed into the shape of an exhaust manifold or a pillar etc., and then degreased. After said degreased metal is immersed in the slurry which is prepared by treating aluminium powder with synthetic resin adhesives and alcohol, a layer of rough surface, consisting of aluminium compound is formed on the foamed metallic surface, by repeating heat operations several times. After that, the treated metal is immersed into the slurry of activated alumina and dried to be baked in a electric oven. Thus, the obtained material is held by a exhaust manifold container 2 or a metallic cylindrical material 7, and formed to a exhaust manifold 4 or exhaust gas filter, and attached to a motor car mounting a diesel engine.
