Abstract

PURPOSE:To form good quality Al diffused layers easily by degreasing and pickling an iron or steel material then coating a slurry-like mixture contg. fine powders of chlorides, fluorides, etc. thereon followed by drying then melt spraying Al thereon and heating the material. CONSTITUTION:An iron or steel material to be aluminized is degreased, washed, pickled and etched. Next, the flux prepd. by adding a suitable binder and water to a mixture of fine powders of chlorides such as KCl, NaCl and the like, and fluorides such as CaF2 and agitating and mixing these is thinly coated on the pickled and etched surface, after which it is dried to solidify. Thence, Al is melt-sprayed on this coated surface to form an Al laminated layer. In this state, the material is put into a heating furnace and is heated or otherwise after the completion of the melt spraying, again the flux is coated thereon, and is dried to solidify, after which the material is put into the heating furnace and is heated. Then, the Al diffuses and percolates into the iron or steel material and the Al laminated layer sticks on the iron or steel material through the diffused layers.
