Abstract

PURPOSE:To lessen the influence of unparalleled magnetization by the core edge of a writing head by preventing variations of the playback output of a reading head due to a track shift. CONSTITUTION:Magnetomotive force is generated by flowing a current through the coil 4 of a writing head 2 to perform magnetization in a track width direction 8. The length of the magnetization is equivalent to track width Ww. A reading head 3 is wound with a coil 5 to generates a playback signal at its both ends. The reading head 3 has less air gap width WR than the air gap width Ww of the writing head. Therefore, even if a medium 1 shifts from the reading head 3 to right and left, the air gap width WR is within the region of track width without fail, and the playback signal across the coil 5 of the reading head 3 is stable.
