Abstract

PURPOSE:To make possible control at an optional excess air rate, by inputting a signal of temperature difference obtained from a gas sensor carrying an oxidation catalyst and a temperature sensor, and a stepwise varying signal of electric resistance of the gas sensor, into a comparator. CONSTITUTION:A temperature sensor 1 and a gas sensor 4 are arranged in an exhaust pipe of engine. Each temperature detected by each thermocouple wire 3, 6 of both sensors 1, 4, is nearly the same because the amount of residual oxygen in the exhaust gas is small in reducing atmosphere in which an excess air ratio is smaller than 1. But, when the excess air ratio is drawn near 1, a sudden temperature rise is detected by the wire 6 because the sensor 4 carries a catalyst. A temperature difference signal obtained from both the wires 3, 6 is inputted into an OR circuit 11 and also, a sudden varying signal of electric resistance from the sensor 4 at the time when the excess air ratio is 1 is inputted into the circuit 11. Concentration of the excess air ratio can be detected by the output of the circuit 11.
