Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled composite fibers having improved flame retardancy, by using high-melting and low-melting components containing two types of flame retardants having different decomposition temperatures separately in the composite fibers consisting of two polyolefinic polymers having different melting points.
CONSTITUTION: 5W15wt% flame retardant having a decomposition temperature of 140°C or more higher than the melting point of a high-melting component of a fiber-forming polyolefinic polymer, preferably polypropylene, is mixed with the high-melting component. On the other hand, 3W5wt% flame retardant having a decomposition temperature lower than that of the flame retardant for the high- melting component and 100°C or more higher than the melting point of a low-melting component of a polyolefinic polymer, preferably polyethylene, having a melting point 10°C or more lower than that of the high-melting component is mixed with the low-melting component. The respective components are molten at a temperature lower than the decomposition temperatures of the flame retardants contained in the respective components, and subjected to the composite spinning to give the aimed fibers.
