Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce titled latex free from nonspecific coagulation reactions and excellent on stability, by copolymerizing styrene with a specified compound in water by use of a water-soluble radical polymerization initiator.
CONSTITUTION: The following components are copolymerized in water (about 50W 100°C, about 5W50hr) by use of a water-soluble radical polymerization initiator, i.e., persulfate,: (A) 100pts.wt. styrene, (B) about 0.1W70pts.wt. compound of formula I, wherein R1 and R2 are each H or CH3, x, u and z are each 0W100, and x+y+z=0W100, e.g. compounds of formula II, and (C) about 0.0001W1pt.wt. styrenesulfonate, e.g., sodium styrenesulfonate.
