PURPOSE:To improve the lubricity and wear resistance of a magnetic recording medium by making a magnetic layer contain a specific organic silicone compound as a lubricant. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic layer is made to contain an organic silicone compound having a modified group with a polarity group and one without any polarity group in a principal chain shown by the right general formula. In the formula, X1 is a -ROH, -RCOOH, -RNH2, or -R- epoxy group and X2 is -OR, -OOR, -OOCRCm F2m+1, -R1COOR2, -(CH2)q-(OCH2CH2)q-(OCH2CHR3)r-OR4, or -C H2)q-(OCH2C HR3)r-OOCR4; R, R1, R2, and R4 are hydrocarbon groups of C1-C26 and R3 is -H or a hydrocarbon group of C1-C2; and (m), (p), and (q) and (r) and 1-11, 0-7, and 0-50, and (n1), n2+n3, and n1+n2+n3 are 0- 1,000, 1-500, and <=1,000.
