Abstract

PURPOSE:To achieve high-fidelity recording and reproduction by recording and reproducing an intermediate and a high frequency range signal as they are and recording a low frequency range signal by frequency modulation when a vapor-deposited tape is used. CONSTITUTION:For recording, stereophonic signals applied to input terminals 1a and 1b are FM-modulated by FM modulators 2a and 2b respectively and added by adders 3a and 3b to an input signal, and the resulting addition signals are recorded on a magnetic tape. The unmodulated output of a carrier oscillator 10 is recorded on a different track by a magnetic head 4c. In reproduction, signals reproduced by magnetic heads 11a and 11b are demodulated by FM demodulators 12a and 12b and then a carrier reproduced by a magnetic head 11c is demodulated by an FM demodulated by an FM demodulator 22 having the opposite polarity to the FM demodulators 12a and 12b to be added to the said demodulation outputs by adders 21a and 21b, thereby eliminating wow and flutter components. The demodulated signals are passed through low-pass filters 14a and 14b and reproduced by the magnetic heads 11a and 11b to be added by high-pass filters 13a and 13b, so that output signals appear at output terminals 16a and 16b.
