Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable the stable measurement to be performed for a long time highly sensitively without interference of coexisting gas, by transforming the sulfureous offensive odor component into SOx by oxidizing catalyst at first, and then selectively transforming SO3 in SOx into SO2. CONSTITUTION:In the continuous analysis of the sulfureous series offensive oder component (TRS component of H2S, CH3SH, and the like), an oxidizing catalyst layer 6, wherein Pt, Pd, Rh, V2O5, MoO3, or the like is carried by an inactive carrier, is heated to 320-500 deg.C. Sample gas is sent at a gas space speed of about 30,000, and oxidized to SOx. Then, a reducing catalyst layer 7, wherein active carbon, graphite, and the like are specifically processed to become incombustible and active state, is heated to 320-500 deg.C, and said oxidized gas is passed. In this way, all SO3 in SOx is substantially transformed into SO2. Interfering coexisting gas such as NH3 is transformed into harmless N2 or H2O. The temperature of the layers 6 and 7 are measured by a thermocouple 8. Before the layer 6, a mixed layer 11 of the sample gas and air, wherein alpha-alumina grains are filled, is provided. Since the perfect transformation to SO3 and SO2 is performed at the relatively low temperature, the durability of the catalyst and a heating furnace can be improved.
