Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect a projecton part on a recording medium without spoiling a floating property of a head and at a high precision, by a method wherein a large- sized ultrasonic sensor is mounted at a waveguide plate which is constituted in the manner such that a part of an elastic member for holding a floating head which does not exercise an influence on floating of a head, is extended. CONSTITUTION:A large-sized ultrasonic sensor 10 is mounted on a waveguide plate 9 which is formed by extending a part 6, being a part of an elastic member 2 and fixed to a spacer 5, which does not exercise an influence on a floating head 1. Ultrasonic wave, produced resulting from contacting of a projection part 11 with the floating head 1, reaches the ultrasonic sensor 10 through the elastic member 2 and the waveguide plate 9 which are monolithically united together, and thereby damping decreases. Thus, the projection part, coupled with the use of the large- sized ultrasonic sensor 10, can perform a high-precose detection. If the wavegide plate 9 is long to some extent, the projection 11, existing at an inner circumferece side of a recording medium 7, can also be detected.
