Abstract
PURPOSE:To determine a track location to be recorded at first, and to make the search accurate and easy, by forming a specified metallic film pattern on a recording medium and using a detection signal through the change in the reflection power. CONSTITUTION:A metallic film pattern 9 is coated in sawtooth wave at the circumference of an insulated film 4 of a recording medium 1, and a photodetector 10 detecting the optical reflection power is moved radially in interlocking with a head 6 on it. With this constitution, since the output is inverted at the pattern 9 and film 4, a specified pulse train is generated from the detector 10. The width of this pulse is broader at the outer circumference and narrower at the inner circumference of the recording medium 1. The head 6 is located where the pulse width takes a certain value to make the location as a track position to be recorded first, and when reproduction, and when the head 6 is tracked to said value, the track position recorded first can be searched accurately and easily.
