Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect traveling speed of an arc by detecting successively the magnetic field due to an arc generated between a central conductor and a container using detecting elements arranged on the outer circumference of the container. CONSTITUTION:A ground fault arc detecting coil 10 is fitted in close contact on the outer circumference of a container 2 of an aerial cable 1, and terminals 10a, 10b are connected to a measuring device such as an electromagnetic oscillograph. To catch the movement of arc current only, a modle in which the direction of arc current 11 is shown by a large arrow is considered. The radial direction of the container 2 of arc current 11 changes irregularly from the nature of arc plasma that involves many variable factors. Considering that the movement in axial direction advances with time in a direction away from the power source, magnetic flux phi generated by strong arc current 11 leaks from the container 1. Accordingly, by placing a decting coil 10 at a position that crosses the magnetic line of force, electromotive force caused by magnetic flux phi can be taken out by the coil 10 and the traveling speed of the arc can be detected.
