PURPOSE:To perform simple edge coating and its peeling work and improve the quality of an edged and melt sprayed steel plate by coating the edge parts of the steel plate with water glass of which the 3 components of Na2O, SiO2, H2O are within a prescribed component composition range, then performing melt spraying. CONSTITUTION:Water glass solns. of which the compositions of Na2O, SiO2, H2O respectively are within the range encircled by A, B, C, D of the table are filled in automatic spray guns 1, 2, 2, and the distances between the leading ends of the guns and a steel plate 4 are adjusted. Next, while the gun 1 is moved back and forth on a beam 3 with respect to the steel plate 4 which is being conveyed, the water glass soln. is sprayed to coat the front edge part of the steel plate to prescribed width by the water glass. Similarly, the edge coating of prescribed width is applied from the guns 2, 2 to both side edge parts of the steel plate 4. Further, the edge coating of prescribed width is applied to the rear edge part of the steel plate by the gun 1. Next, the steel plate 4 having undergone the masking treatment in this way is preheated to 150-300 deg.C in a preheating furnace, after which Al is melt sprayed over the entire surface in accordance with a conventional method in a melt spraying device, following to which the coating of the masked wate glass is peeled with a blade or the like, and this completes the production of the edged and melt sprayed steel plate.
