Abstract
PURPOSE: To manufacture an Al alloy having many pinholes and useful as a superior material for a sliding face member by melting a high-Si Al alloy contg. Si in the hyper-eutectic, adding a substance generating hydrogen by decomposition at a high temp. to the molten alloy, and cooling the alloy.
CONSTITUTION: A high-Si Al alloy contg. 11W20% Si in the hyper-eutectic, 1W5% Cu and 0.2W0.8% Mg is melted, and to the molten alloy is added a substance generating hydrogen such as metallic hydride, hydroxide or hydrate at 100W600°C by about 0.1%. The substance is decomposed in the molten alloy to generate steam or hydrogen, which is allowed to be absorbed in the molten alloy. By releasing the absorbed hydrogen or the like during casting and solidifying the molten alloy, many fine pinholes are formed around proeutectic Si, and a sliding member using the pinholes as oil reservoirs for lubricating oil and having superior wear resistance is manufactured.
