Abstract

PURPOSE:To correct the tape positioning error and realize a writing retrial, by measuring the degree of the positioning error on a reading survo track on a trailing servo track during a retrial of writing action and driving the tape in the direction where the degree of detection is reduced for the servo track error. CONSTITUTION:A writing retrial deciding circuit 11 decides that a rewriting instruction has been given by monitoring an upper controller interface. For execution of this instruction, a positioning error detecting circuit 6 gives the degree of positioning error obtained by reading and measuring both the reading servo track and the trailing servo track to an otimum reproduction positioning deciding circuit 12 and calculates the degree of error for the position of a magnetic tape from the degree of positioning error and based on the prescribed optimum reproduction positioning logic to apply it to a step feed extent control circuit 7. After this, D/A converter 8, a power amplifier 9, a capstan motor 10 and a writing control circuit 13 work in that order to correct the position of the magnetic tape.
