Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a sensor which is simple in constitution, is small in size, and is strong to electromagnetic induction noise by constituting the vehicle speed sensor by using optical fibers. CONSTITUTION:A rotary disc 6 is mounted in one piece to a revolving shaft 4, and optical fibers 9a, 9b are provide opposite to each other near the surface of said disc 6 by leaving a spacing between their end faces. A shutter 10 made of a ferromagnetic material or magnet shutting off the transmission of light between the fibers 9a and 9b is provided movably between the fibers 9a and 9b. Further, a magnet 17 is installed in such a way that a magnetic flux acts upon the shutter 10 when the disc 6 comes to a fixed position. Light pulses are transmitted between the fibers 9a and 9b by the intermittent movements of the shutter 10 by the intermittently acting magnetic force of the magnet.
