Abstract

Reciprocal braking of two surfaces pivoted w.r.t. each other such that their relative angular speed can be regulated independently of the couple to each surface. The system is esp. directed at the controls of a camera lens turret etc., where smoothness and rate of change is important. The mounting consists of a normally calibrated disc (1) suitable mounted e.g. on a tripod etc., and rotatable about a central shaft (2). The carrier proper has a lower edge dia. enabling it to fit within the annular shoulder of the lower disc and has three permanent magnets (14) within its volume. The braking effect is due to the field of the magnets coupling with a thin ferromagnetic intermediate disc (15) locating and locking (16, 17) with the upper surface of the lower disc. The intermediate disc has a self lubricating upper surface (18).
