Abstract

PURPOSE: To form good welding beads by driving an arc column generated between an electrode and materials to be welded in a specific direction by the magnetic field formed by an electromagnet provided in one piece with the electrode at the arc welding.
CONSTITUTION: In welding a square groove of materials 1 to be welded by an arc welding method wherein an arc column interposes in gaseous space such as inert gas welding such as TIG welding or MIG welding, CO2 arc welding, nonshielded arc welding or the like, an electromagnet 4 moving in one piece with an electrode 2 in a welding direction is installed in a direction intersecting orthogonally with a welding advace direction. At the time of welding the groove by generating an arc column 5 between the leading end of the elctrode 2 and the materials 1, DC pulse current is flowed from an electric power source 3 to the electromagnet 4. The arc column 5 is vibrated in the welding advance direction by the pulse magnetic field formed by this current, whereby the lack of fusion by welding and weld bead defects are eliminated and the superior weld beads are formed.
