Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect traveling speed accurately and improve qualiy of a steel plate by raising a measuring roll after the tip of a steel plate passed and at the same time making it free run state. CONSTITUTION:When the tip of a steel plate 12 comes out from a finishing rolling mill 10 and sent to a hot run table 14, the tip of the steel plate 12 is detected by an HMD44. Simultaneously with generation of this detection signal, output pulse operation of a pulse generator 24 is started. The speed of the steel plate 12 is determined by correcting the detected speed of the pulse generator 24 using a fixed advance ratio. After the steel plate 12 passed a measuring roll 28, an elevator 40 is actuated to raise the roll 28 by specified amount and it is made free run state. By this operation, the roll 28 rotates without causing slipping with the steel plate 12, and converts traveling speed of the steel plate into rotation speed of the roll 18. Thus, the roll 28 detects the traveling speed of the steel plate correctly and makes correction according to the output of the pulse generator 24.
