Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the loss of heat of high-temp. metallic billets in the transfer courses between respective processes with simple means by sandwiching one side adhesive heat insulating materials with the end faces of the plural billets on the transfer courses.
CONSTITUTION: A metallic billet 1 which is continuously cast and is cut to a fixed size is transferred directly to a rolling process. At this time, a placed heat insulating material 12 is set to a heat insulating material adhering device 4 by grasping its edge parts, is rotated in an (a) direction and is allowed to stand by in a position of facing to the transfer course 15 for the billet 1. When the preceding billet 1' passes said standby position and stops in a prescribed position, this is detected, and a control device commands to advance the material 12 in a (b) direction, thereby setting the same in a position covering the end face 1a of the billet 1'. Thence, a billet 1" is transferred and the material 12 is sandwiched by the end faces 1a of the billets 1', 1", whereby the material 12a is adhered simultaneously to the faces 1a, 1a. Thereafter, when the grasping of the material 12 is released and the billets 1', 1" are spaced, the material 12 parts at the nonadhesive surface 12b on the back.
