Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a signal having an improve S/N and a reduced distortion, by clipping or compressing the high band component of a video signal higher than a certain level and then pre-emphasizing and de-emphasizing the high band component for recording and reproducing respectively. CONSTITUTION:For a VTR, etc., the video signal of waveform (a) is applied through a terminal 10, and only the high band component higher than a certain level is extracted like a waveform (b) through a high band peak clipping circuit 21. Thus a signal (b) whose components higher than a certain level of + or -E is clipped is obtained. After this, a signal (d) whose high band component is emphasized is obtained through a pre-emphasizing circuit 1 and modulated by an FM modulator 3 to be recorded. This signal is demodulated by an FM demodulator 6 to obtain a waveform (d) during the reproduction. Then a signal of waveform (l) is reproduced through a terminal 11 and via a de-emphasizing circuit 7. In such way, the degree of emphasis is increased while reducing the occurrence of the screen distortion like the smears, streaking, etc. Thus a video signal is reproduced with an improved S/N.
