Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the reproduced images of high quality by stressing higher frequencies as the signal amplitude is smaller in the recording system, and attenuating the high-order higher harmonic waves of over a desired band prior to FM modulation thereby performing recording. CONSTITUTION:The video signal from an input terminal 1 is limited to the desired recording band of a specific value and is removed of color signals in an automatic gain control circuit AGC2 or the like, then in a nonlinear emphasis circuit 4, the degree of stress of the high-band frequency components is changed. In a high-band attenuator 27, the components above the desired high-band frequencies are attenuated and the high-band frequencies are further emphasized in an emphasis circuit 5, after which the signal is supplied via an FM modulator 8 or the like to a video head 11, by which it is recorded on a recording medium. In reproducing, the high-band frequency components are suppressed by a de-emphasis circuit 17. Thereafter, the higher components than the desired band are attenuated by a higher-band attenuator 28. With such constitution, undesired components are removed and signal distortions are also removed, hence the reproduced image of high S/N and high quality are obtained.
