Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable to perform a high-speed gel permeation, by using crosslinked PVA gel having an isocyanurate ring in its skeleton and pores of a size in accordance with to the molecular weight of a component to be separated. CONSTITUTION:A vinyl ester (a) of a carboxylic acid and a compount (b) having an isocyanurate ring shown by formula I [wherein R1, R2 and R3 are each -CH2- CH=CH2, -CH2-C=CH or -CH2-C(CH3)=CH2] (where X is represented by equation II, where M1 is MW of compound a, M2 is MW of compound b, W1 and W2 are weights of compounds (a) and (b) used in polymerization, and n1 is the number of vinyl groups in a molecule in compound (a), and 20-200pts.wt. (based on 100pts.wt. monomers) organic solvent, which dissolves the monomers but is difficultly soluble in water, is added to the monomers for suspension copolymerization. The obtained copolymer is hydrolyzed to give crosslinked PVA gel having the following physical properties: 3<= density of hydroxyl groups (qOH)<=15 (meq/g), 0.5<= amount of water retention (WR)<=3.0ml/g, 5<= specific surface area (S) <=1,000m<2>/g, 2X10<3= exclusion limit molecular weight (Ml im) <=10<8>, for use as the titled filler.
