Abstract

PURPOSE: To accomplish high-speed washing without damaging a coater by providing a valve for switching a flow of a washing liquid between the discharge side and the coater side, in washing a coating device at the time of changing the color of coating material.
CONSTITUTION: When washing the coating device, firstly a change-over valve 7 is opened to the discharge side and a pipe 6 on the upstream side is washed at high pressure and at high speed. Then, the valve 7 is changed over to the coater 4 side, followed by washing at lower pressure and at lower speed. The change-over valve 7 has tandem construction consisting of needle-type valves 8, 9 such that no stagnation of fluid occurs in a fluid passage, and the valve 7 is operated pneumatically. Accordingly, the pipe 6 can be washed in a short period of time without causing waste liquid to be spattered. When subsequently washing the coater 4 side, since this side acounts for only a part of the system volume, the washing can be completed in a short period of time with a low washing speed and without causing damages on the coater 4 or extreme spattering of the waste liquid.
