Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve sealing performance against high pressure fluid, by filling expansion graphite formation into a tubular piled body to provide application to a dynamically used part.
CONSTITUTION: After expansion graphite particle of bulk density 0.021g/cm3 is formed in thickness of 0.25mm and density of 10g/cm3, it is cut in a ribbon shape of about 5mm width and 20mm length. The thus prepared formation is filled in a hollow part of tubular packet like piled body with the inner diameter of about 10mmϕ to form a composite piled packing. This packing was mounted in a stuffing box to perform the test of sealing property. As a result, any leakage was not found under fastening pressure of plus 70% and further improved torque down characteristic of 40% is obtained in comparison with a conventional piled packing.
