Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain alkaline earth metallic borate useful as starting material for glaze, pigment, etc. in a way advantageous to preservation of the environment by mixing alkaline earth metallic hydroxide with boric acid or alkaline earth metallic borate and reacting the mixture in a tightly sealed zone.
CONSTITUTION: Alkaline earth metallic hydroxide [R(OH)2.8H2H] is mixed with boric acid or alkaline earth metallic borate (RO.3B2O3.mH2O). After adding a little water as required, the mixture is reacted in a tightly sealed zone so as to prevent the escape of water liberated by the reaction and the absorption of CO2. The preferred alkaline earth metal is strontium or barium. The addition of a little water causes no trouble to the raction, yet an increase in the amount of added water is not preferable since the reactive substances are separated into a liq. layer and a solid layer, and the molar ratio of both the components in one layer is made different from that in the other layer owing to the solubility difference between the reactive substances.
