Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled composite material capable of dissolving a medical enzyme at a controlled rate for a long term, by mixing the medical enzyme with a matrix material containing a protein essentially, denaturing the protein by a physical and chemical means, and irradiating the resultant mixture with light or ionizing radiation.
CONSTITUTION: (A) One or more types of medical enzymes, e.g. uricase or asparaginase, are mixed with (B) a matrix material consisting of one or more types of proteins, e.g. γ-globulin or bovine blood serum albumin, containing 0.01W80wt% physiological medium solution, e.g. physiological saline solution, essentially. The resultant system is then subjected to the chemical treatment, e.g. the addition of an acid or surfactant, or physical treatment, e.g. heating, ultraviolet light irradiation or shaking, to denature the protein. The mixture is then irradiated with light or ionizing radiation to give the aimed sustained release type composite material.
