Abstract
PURPOSE: To enhance the adhesive strength of a copper plating layer by removing the component thickening layer of the surface layer of a steel plate down to a bulk layer prior to carrying out electroplating.
CONSTITUTION: The component concn. gradient in a depth direction by an ion microanalyzer of an austenite stainless steel (SUS304) which is subjected to bright annealing or atmospheric annealing then to skin pass rolling after cold rolling is as shown in the curves of the figure. Namely, Cr, Mn, Si, etc. are concn. considerably in the surface layer and if this surface thickened layer is pickled thoroughly by a fluoronitric acid, it is dissolved away, and the curves turn approximately constant as shown by the solid lines of the figure. The steel plate made into such state is subjected to nickel strike plating by a conventional method then to copper plating. It is equally well to physically remove the surface thickened layer.
