Abstract

PURPOSE:To keep the tip of a knife edge part sharp by a method wherein a cylindrical body is placed near the knife edge part of a rotary coating cup with a narrow gap therebetween, a washing liquid is passed through the gap, another cylindrical body is placed on the outside of said cylindrical body, and air for restricting the jetting direction of the washing liquid is passed between the two cylindrical bodies. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous coating material such as an emulsion coating material is used. The cylindrical body 10 is placed near the knife edge part 6 with the narrow gap therebetween, and the washing liquid is passed through the narrow gap continuously or intermittently. The second cylindrical body 11 is concentrically placed on the outside of the first cylindrical body 10 and air for restricting the jetting direction of the washing liquid is passed between both the cylindrical bodies 10, 11. By such constitution, the washing liquid is prevented from scattering in the radius direction of the coating cup 7 due to a centrifugal force of the rotation, and the coating material adhering round to the outside peripheral surface of the knife edge part 6 is removed.
