Abstract

PURPOSE: To smoothly decrease the output torque of an engine and reduce its shock, by gradually decreasing the amount of air supplied to the engine during a delay time from the point that the fuel cut condition is satisfied unitl the point that the fuel cut is started.
CONSTITUTION: A fuel cut is performed by the decision of various operational conditions of cooling water temperature, speed or the like in an engine. From the time when the condition for performing a fuel cut is satisfied, a prescribed length of time is delayed in a step P12, to make a decision for whether at the delay time or not in a step P21. If in a state of the delay time, an increase amout of air is obtained in accordance with speed, then an opening degree of an air flow control valve is controlled in such a manner as to decrease said amount of air divisionally at several times.
